Unless you have been living under a rock, on Mars and with your fingers in your ears then I am certain that you have seen the adverts and possibly played the game of Portal 2.

I was a big fan of the original Portal with its quirky humor and difficult puzzles.  My only complaint was that it was incredibly short.  Once I heard a sequel was in the offing I was chuffed to bits and finally it is here.

Set many years after the original we once again find ourselves in the Aperture testing facility.  Of course it is now a very different place having suffered from some unknown cataclysm that we are led to believe has also befallen the outside world.  we are woken by the muddled robotic sphere Wheatley voiced by British actor and writer Stephen Merchant.  We are brought back into the labs and begin the process of testing again having accidentally woken up GLaDOS from the original portal game.

It was great jumping back into the portal universe again and there is a great voice cameo by spider-man star J.K. Simmons.  This time however the puzzles are not as difficult as before and I was able to breeze through the single player campaign with relative ease, finishing in little under 7 hours.  There is of course the co-op aspect of the game which I have only dabbled which has much more challenging puzzles requiring levels of actual co-operation that us humans can rarely achieve.  Thankfully two robots are there to take your place.

As to improvements on the original we now have the addition of gels which change the properties of the surface that they are applied to.  The blue gel makes the floor, walls or objects bouncy.  The orange gel increases your character’s speed across the ground and the white cell creates a portal surface for those rooms that are not white enough.  Also light bridges and gravity tubes are there to aid in your puzzle solving endeavor.

Overall Portal 2 is a great game, although the loading screens between levels will begin to grate on your nerves.  I would advise buying from amazon or another retailer as the price on steam is very high.  Check out the video below for some Portal 2 action to tide you over until you get your hands on it.
