is the tale of a rich spoilt man who decides to become a super hero parading as a villain after the death of his father.  He is helped by Kato, a martial arts expert who designs state of the art weapons that just happened to work for the now deceased father.

I normally enjoy bad movies but The Green Hornet really doesn’t have anything going for it that makes it even remotely appealing to me.  I think the major issue here is that Seth Rogen makes no effort at caricaturisation, simply relying on what I assume is supposed to be charm.  His raspy voice, aggressive attitude and attempts at slap stick have definitely become stale which i think we all saw when Observe and Report (awful movie, I’m talking eyes bleeding territory here) came out.

Jay and Seth

The Green Hornet 2011

Jay Chou as Kato on the other hand is OK although his character is left somewhat one dimensional throughout and we really never get to understand him as much as we would like.  Of course not everyone in the world is deep but I would like to think that there is more going on.

We also have Cameron Diaz who should really start thinking about getting out of the acting game.  Knight and Day was an awful movie made much worse by her being in it and The Green Hornet hasn’t showcased any of her latent talent that I could see. Thankfully she is only in the movie for around 15 minutes all in all.

When I heard that Christoph Waltz was the bad guy in this movie I was fairly happy as his work in Inglourious Basterds was top rate. I was however let down again as he is very one dimensional, similar to Kato, which means that there is no real connection made.

In regards to the stunt work, special effects and fight scenes these were also very weak and felt more like a b-movie than a Hollywood blockbuster.  This may have been done deliberately but even so the effect was wasted on me if this was the case.

The acting as I stated before was sub par, the story was lame and predictable and the overall feeling of the movie was just a complete let down.  I couldn’t really recommend this movie to anyone and I can only hope not many of you waste your lives on this one.
